Balm
Little known dive spot just under the dam, very strong current.
Location on map
Balm is very little known dive spot in Rhine, and, as far as author knowns, not affected by general ban for diving without local groups guidance.
Entry & Exit
You enter at the end of foot path near the dam. Don’t go to the concrete basin on the foot of the dam. It’s slippery and there’s a reverse current caused by falling water - you might get stuck. There are a lot of fishes there, but be cautious when watching them. You exit water ideally near the parking spot (coordinates).
Hazards
Ship traffic
The only possible boat traffic here is from the inclined plane, that is used only sporadically. You should always check if there’s any ship being tranported before you enter water.
Strong current
The water directed to the water plant exits here. In that moment, current is very strong. You switch on a spot from calm water to the rollercoaster mode. Optimally, take only the most necessary minimum - single regulator, no lamps, cameras with highest caution, wet suit. There are trees under water where you can get stuck with your stuff.
