Entry & Exit
The recommended entry is on the Swiss side via Salmenwiese, southwest of the Zollbruecke (old customs bridge), using the steps near the small landing area. The former weir entry should be avoided to reduce conflicts with local residents and municipal restrictions.
Underwater profile
- Best underwater structures are southwest of the bridge
- Beautiful walls and washouts near the riverbed depressions
- Typical route: descend from the Swiss side, explore the structure line, cross toward the German side, then return below the bridge
- Frequent fish sightings in cracks and overhangs, especially on night dives
Hazards & local rules
- Never dive here during high water
- Watch for boat traffic, especially in summer
- Respect local quiet hours and community rules at access/parking areas
- Avoid large training groups; small teams are preferred for this site
- In very warm or very cold water periods, consider ecological impact on fish refuges before diving
Facilities
- Public parking about 200 m from entry
- ToiToi toilet near the parking area
- Restaurant (Gasthaus zum Salmen) close to the bridge

Rheinau catfish dive - late April 2026

Dive place Rheinau Alte Zollbrücke is known for catfishes, that have there their rest places. This part of the Rhine river is cut off from main water current by the nearby water plant. Most of the water is directed to the water plant, and only the remains are flowing through the river bend around Rheinau. Usually, there's only a minimal current.
