Exploring the Marsalforn vicinity on foot

When I travel, I love exploring the vicinity on foot. Most of my travels are now dedicated to scuba diving, but I try to always find time for short hikes or slow runs. Gozo, known also as the european Mecca of scuba diving, has beautiful shores and interesting landscapes.

I’ve stayed in small fishing town Marsalforn, in the accomodation of Atlantis, one of many diving centers located there. My first goal outside the town was Tas-Salvadur, a hillock with a big Jesus status, and non-accidentally the nearest geocache to my accomodation.

Two days later, I’ve done my first run along the shore, exploring on foot the route that I’ve already known from car transport to the dive location. There’s also no accident, there was another geocache on this route.

Another two days later I’ve done another run with similar route, but a bit for further. I’ve visited another hillock, Il-Qolla s-Safra (Yellow Hillock), which I’ve seen during the dive trips. It has very interesting shape, and also nice views from there. But no extra geocaches - I’m a very casual finder nowadays.

It doesn’t seem like very intensive training, but running too intensively after scuba diving is not recommended, at least for most of the people. Intensive cardio or power training after diving is considered to significantly increase risk of decompression sickness. But if you’re fit, a bit of sport after a few hours after diving should be fine.

When you travel with plane, you have obligatory dive pause, at least 24 hours before the flight. What a perfect opportunity for a running day! On Saturday, I’ve made only one dive, and afternoon, I’ve made a bit longer run to Victoria, the capital of Gozo.

On the next day, I’ve got a late flight, so I’ve done a short run in the morning, once again on the shore route:

and afterwards I’ve discovered something new: I’ve made a cliff walk. It was a nice narrow path along the shore with small hidden beaches and interesting rock formations with small cavern.
